Live and learn.
The gig I took to bring in more money has (ARGHHH!!!!) ended up costing me literally hundreds of dollars (I estimate close to a thousand in just two weeks) because I wasn't able to spend each day online reliably watching for writing projects. I lost some projects that were offered to me because I didn't respond promptly to the invitations, so the clients assumed I wasn't available or interested. I lost others simply because I wasn't available to quote on the projects right away as they came in, so the buyers chose another decent provider who was ready to rock and roll.
I discovered, during this fiasco, that my understanding of how my online writing career works was off the beam by a bunch. It turns out I have to be present and vigilant on at least an hourly basis to get as many writing projects as I do. I can't take on other gigs without losing others--and it's the writing gigs that pay best. Who else is going to pay me $50 to $70 an hour (legally, ethically and morally)?
I'm glad the other gig is winding down. If it weren't, I'd have to quit it altogether.
Well, at least now I know what I need to keep doing: what I've been doing for the past five years: writing, writing, and writing! How's that for confirmation?
